I've always been of the opinion that getting mail is very exciting. Maybe part of that is that I haven't reached the time in life where most of your mail is bills or ads....I get my credit card bills online, and since I live with my family, the ads are addressed to my mom instead of me. But all in all I think that even if you get mostly junkmail, that probably makes the "real" mail more exciting.
Throughout 2021 and 2022 I became very interested in letter writing. I would make homemade envelopes using fun patterned papers, and seal them up with pretty colors of wax. I corresponded with lots of different people, and found that letter writing is very interesting. I think telling people about your life can be a lost art. So often we only tell people about the important and big events, which of course are good to share, but sometimes the little things are just as much or even more valuable. Within my correspondence with two dear girls, I loved hearing about the fruit they harvested, or the new pen one was writing with, or reading a snippets of short stories or poems they wrote. We'd talk about what foods they liked to cook best, and the creek they played in during the summer.
Over the past five, well I guess almost six years now, I've had opportunities to notice and appreciate these little things more. Some would say it is because my life is small, so I have to fill my mind with things that are inconsequential, things that are just too small to merit notice....but I don't see it that way. Noticing the little things around me makes me a better artist. And additionally, what is most important, they make me more able to appreciate just how big and majestic and creative God is. He's huge, He alone knows how big the universe is. But He also chose to create something as small as an ion, He bent down to earth and formed a blade of grass. That is the miracle I notice all the more because of my circumstance.
So if you notice a little thing that makes you smile this week, tell someone you love about it. Maybe the sun shone through the clouds in a way you never noticed was beautiful before. Or maybe your little one said a word in a way that was adorable and funny. Things like that might feel too small or maybe too specific to you to share with others, but it might just remind them to slow down and notice the little things in their lives that make them smile. I think we'd all enjoy our amazing world better if we did that more often.
Maybe the thing that makes you smile today or this week is a pretty package. I've had a lot of fun decorating packages for the orders I've gotten so far =D
And here's a fun timelapse of me creating these boxes.
So yes, that's what I have to share this week...a reminder to look for little things and take joy in them. Thanks for reading friends, Soli Deo Gloria.
Also if you'd like a pretty box in your mail, you can order a calendar here ;)
But I promise getting you to order something wasn't the point of this post 😂
I suppose we were those "two dear girls"? :) Your envelopes and letters were always so pretty, and it was an adventure of finding what you would send next. We still have some of the cute seals you used on the envelopes. Thanks for a great post, Shannon! -Dandi
