More Cozy Creatures and Big News!

Skip to the end if you’ve only come for the big news ;)

I believe my blog post of last week accomplished its intended goal, as my cozy animals did seem to bring some cool weather. We had a few days of deliciously fall like temps here. In hopes to summon more of this fine weather, I share two more cozy creatures I have painted this past week.

This rooster is inspired by our own. He is a large, rather orangish fellow named Roo (his sister is named Winnie, inspired by Winnie the Pooh of course). He looks very majestic, but much less so with a green scarf around his neck. Roo is in fact our second rooster. Our first rooster we got by accident in our first batch of chicks. Although you can purchase specifically female chicks, you accept the risk that 10% of them may in fact be roosters. This was our sad fate, and the rooster we ended up with was a mean bird, with a special penchant for terrifying me by pouncing in my direction with his large spurs and evil eyes. Due to this unfortunate behavior he was taken away by a neighbor, and by all accounts now lives comfortably on someone else’s farm. Our new rooster is thankfully more afraid of us than anything, and has shown no symptoms of the aggression our previous rooster so fondly favored. Due to this virtue, he now has a portrait all of his own.

This next painting is of a piebald deer. Piebald is a genetic mutation that causes white spots in many animals, but is particularly rare in deer. It is made even more rare by the fact that due to this coloration it is difficult to camouflage, so many of the fawns of this pattern are abandoned by their mothers at birth. I learned about this coloring in deer recently, and thought it was so interesting and beautiful that I had to paint it. So here is the result! (Her name is Sally. No, I don’t know why.)

And now, with the two paintings out of the way, we come to the news!

Drumroll please…

The 2025 Calendar has been created!!! It should be available to purchase in my shop on Saturday, with shipping beginning Wednesday of next week. Shipping will be free, or you can select pick up on the product page to receive a discount on the calendar, if you live in town and would like to get the calendar from my family at church or whenever you next visit my home.

This is my first time creating a calendar that is full size, measuring 12x12 inches, which is standard for a wall calendar. I don’t think I’ve ever seen my art this big!

So that’s what I have to share this Thursday! I hope you all have had a lovely week and are looking forward to a wonderful weekend. Soli Deo Gloria friends.

I love the rooster story! It's kinda funny now to hear it but I'm sure you were terrified when it flew at you! My dad told me a story of when he was little and a rooster "attacked" him on his way to the bathroom. His momma didn't take to that and they had chicken for dinner!!

I can't wait for your calendar!! Will I receive another email reminding me? (My rememberer doesn't work too well anymore! Haha!)

Yes an email will be going out when the calendars are available!

That story about your dad and the chicken is great. I entirely approve of your grandmas method of dealing with it. That rooster got his just reward 😂
